We are an environmental consultancy company specialising in freshwater sciences. University-based, we provide our clients with the highest quality services for the management of lakes and streams.

Our expertise is wide-ranging, from field survey and sampling through to sophisticated statistical data analysis and modelling, and our people are all highly trained and experienced.

We collaborate with colleagues based in other world-class Universities and Research Institutes, and we run research and consultancy projects of any size or complexity, including training courses, workshops and conferences.

Our People

Our consultancy members are all experienced freshwater scientists, most holding PhDs in a relevant discipline. They have high level generic skills in project design, field sampling, laboratory methods, data analysis and report writing as well as their own specialised skills in chemical and biological analysis.

Our consultancy skills are derived from our research interests. We use both standard methods as well as those we have developed ourselves through the course of our research. In all cases our services are based on state-of-the-art techniques.

Our objective is to promote the management, sustainable use and conservation of freshwater ecosystems. The projects we undertake all relate to that objective and, as a research-based company, contribute to our knowledge transfer mission.

Ensis is the consultancy arm of the Environmental Change Research Centre at UCL. The specialist aspects of our consultancy stem directly from the ECRC’s research programme on aquatic ecosystems. Many of our people combine consultancy and research for mutual benefit.
